about

Keith Kreuser aka K-Kruz and Jason Hunt of Boy King Islands finally bring into focus and complete their long awaited full length Skies Light Up. Staying with the production values that drew comparisons to Bon Iver and Antlers the washed out analog sounds are anchored by solid indie pop songwriting that is catchier. This is apparent on opening track "Solar System", which has already received some love on Chicago's WXRT. On tracks like "Pedestal", an anthem about coming of age and fatherhood, comparisons could easily be drawn to Arcade Fire. The one guest on the record is rapper Ken Kardo formerly known as Diverse, laying a verse on the middle of an anthem laced with strings and piano, heavy soulful drums and drums.
Their Ocean is making genre defying their calling card with their full length debut, but at no point does it seem disjointed or disconnected flowing easily through indie rock, indie pop, indie soul and beyond.
